Vamshi Krishna

How did you discover The Combine [CSC] CrossFit? And how long have you beena member?

I discovered CrossFit through a community friend. He has done it in the past, introduced us to what CrossFit is about which raised my interest, and that’s how I found CSC. Just crossed my first year and many more to come.

What is your exercise history or athletic background?

I used to be a pretty good athlete in school but things changed dramatically since college and professional life with no watch on what I ate and very little to no exercise before CrossFit happened.

What has CrossFit at the Combine done for your personally? Physically?

Honestly a lot. Due to my excessive weight gain in the past and work pressure, I used to be worn out pretty fast and at the end of the day and hardly had any energy to spend time with the kids. One day I decided to change that, started paying attention to what I eat, and of course signed up for CrossFit which totally changed the game. I am able to spend more active time with my kids which is fantastic and personally I feel more confident now.

Who/what inspires/motivates you or why do you workout?

The honest answer is “after every workout, the sense of that little achievement makes me feel awesome and happy” which really keeps me going. I still have a long way to go but with what I have achieved so far and the transformation I have seen really keeps me motivated. In addition, my weekend sports, volleyball and shuttle where both demand fitness to excel in the game also helps to keep up with my workout routine.

What is one of your favorite moments you’ve had in CrossFit?

Since I wasn’t in the best shape before starting CrossFit, I have a lot of favorite moments. To name a few- the day I was able to do a complete rope climb, pull ups, chest to bar (20 of them without a break), hand stand pushups, one of the hero work out days (forgot the name) where I competed with the best in our class etc……

What fitness accomplishment are you most proud of? Have you hit any recent PRs or achieved any other goal(s) in our outside of CrossFit?  Any future goals?

Proud moments- I started with a deadlift of 125 lbs which itself was very tough at the beginning and now am able to do 255 lbs. Also the ability to do consistent pull ups (C2B) and hand stand pushups are some accomplishments.

Outside of CrossFit- On the funnier side, I am performing so well in Volleyball kicking our opponents’ ass and have won last two leagues as a result!

Future Goals: Upper body strength, hang power cleans, push press etc is where I am not that great and would like to improve in these areas. Also hand stand walks and double unders are something I can’t do as of today but am sure I will nail them off one day!

What are your favorite CrossFit workouts or exercises/movements?

I really love everything about CrossFit. The pattern is unique with no same exercise every day and most importantly helps build strength throughout the whole body. Favorite Workouts- Strength workouts and hero workouts are my favorites and also the ones that involves a partner.

When you are not working out, how do you spend your free time?

I spend lot of time with my family going out to restaurants or watching movies or hanging out with friends. Also, sometimes I try to teach CrossFit at home to my son and wife who are slowly getting the taste of it and hopefully one day they will be seen at CSC as regulars!

We also know you’ve lost a significant amount of weight since starting CrossFit. Can you include your before and current body weight?

From 198 lbs down to 152 lbs. Being stronger, leaner, happier and more capable all leading to a better life. If anyone comes to me and says they have second thoughts about exercise, it might sound exaggerated but I will definitely say this – “Go do it as it helps you to win at life!!!” Setting and achieving fitness goals helps you set and achieve goals in every other aspectof your life.
