Most of you probably know Caroline as the curly, blonde-haired fast girl in class! Give her sprints in a workout and she’ll blow right past you with ease. In the last several months she has made such amazing progress in her strength and her body composition has changed since she started as well. When it comes to “grunt work” like stone cleans and yoke carries; she’s a force to be reckoned with. I love watching Caroline push herself during class; she’s a friendly, yet serious competitor. And her personality makes class enjoyable, too. I can’t wait to see what kind of CrossFit athlete she is in another nine months from now – Coach Melisa.
How did you discover The Combine [CSC] CrossFit? And how long have you been a member?
I have been a member at CSC for about 9 months now. Coincidentally, my husband and I found CSC on our own over 3 years ago and tried it for about 6 months. We had just opened up our new business & had two toddlers at home, nonetheless, we made every excuse in the book to not continue on with CSC at that point in our lives. Then, about 9 months ago, a very good friend of mine asked me to come to CSC with her. I went. Then I went again, and again. Now I can’t imagine not ever not going back.
What is your exercise history or athletic background?
Sports were my life. I have two older brothers and I’m pretty sure I was throwing a ball before I could crawl. As I got older, being a part of a team became second nature to me and I always felt like they were my second family. Fast forward, I had opportunities to play softball and volleyball in college but decided to put all of my focus on getting my business degree. From there, I just planned my own workouts and played on various intramural teams. Until joining CSC last year, I don’t think I knew how much I truly missed the feeling of being a part of a team atmosphere.
What has CrossFit at the Combine done for your personally? Physically?
Personally, it has brought amazing friendships – friendships that may have never happened outside of CSC due to life and different careers, and simply different circles; which in return, makes those friendships even more appreciated. It has also pushed me mentally & physically further than I ever thought I could be pushed. When you think you can’t do more, you think you are too tired to make it to the workout, or you just tell yourself “there is no way” to do another damn wall ball, CSC somehow finds a way to make you feel like you most definitely can.
Who/what inspires/motivates you or why do you workout?
Being challenged on a daily basis is my biggest motivation. Competition is also a big aspect of my motivation. I workout because it makes me feel good, it’s an escape, it’s therapy. Lastly, my biggest inspiration in the gym is Melisa Aguiler-Rehm; I have never met anyone so determined or more ambitious about their health, and its simply inspiring.
What is one of your favorite moments you’ve had in CrossFit?
Probably all of the inappropriate, hilarious, & TMI conversations we have at the all-women classes 🙂
What fitness accomplishment are you most proud of? Have you hit any recent PR’s or achieved any other goal(s) in our outside of CrossFit? Any future goals?
I’m proud that I feel stronger than I did 9 months ago. I have made some PR’s that have been amazing motivation for me, but I also have many many more goals I’d like to reach: like strict handstand push-ups, muscle-ups, and handstand walks. One day.
What are your favorite CrossFit workouts or exercises/movements?
Mostly anything fast-paced.
When you are not working out, how do you spend your free time?
Spending time with my husband and two daughters, putting out fires at work, enjoying time with friends, and traveling as much as possible.
